Beautiful Things: Sunday Owl

Gorgeous gold rings from Sunday Owl.
Love the textures, the rose cut stones and the restrained elegance of the collection.

Brass Lovelies

This past spring, I took a jewellery course at the Harbourfront Centre here in Toronto. I've taken their craft courses before and have always found them to be informative and fun. This one, Introduction to Jewellery, was way more involved than I thought it was going to be (there is some serious machinery needed for jewellery making!) and I was thrilled to have had the experience.

Both of my projects were made in brass. The ring was a flat band that I pounded, soldered into shape and polished the heck out of it. I made the cuff first out of molding wax and had it sent off for casting. Once that piece came back, I filed it and polished it.

It was awesome to work on something, creating it out of such seemingly hard materials and shaping it to suit. My instructor Heather Rathbun was also pretty awesome - check out her work here.

WishLust: Paper and Chain Jewellery

I'm pretty deep in baby land right now but I wanted to share these beauties from Paper and Chain - I had seen them months ago and can't seem to stop thinking about them.
Those bracelets are my favourite.

Check out their blog here.

Wish Lust: Gabriela Artigas

If I could, I would collect them all.
I'm loving the look of this series by designer Gabriela Artigas.
I've been wanting dainty little bands for some time now and I think the execution and the styling here is pretty awesome.

Good Styling

Just spotted these over at Afton Hakes' portfolio site. Not sure what I love more
- the perfectly geometric pieces by Portland designer Sara Dudzinksy or the wicked cool branding by Afton.
It's really so great to see everything comes together in design.
A perfect logo for a perfect line.

Gotta Try - Hex Nut Bracelet

I have had this idea in my head for a couple of months and should really get around to actually trying it out. (I watched how many movies this weekend?)

So simple. So cool. And you can do it yourself!

Check out the DIY instructions over here.

Darling Things

This weekend was full of good things.
For one, I got to be pretty lazy after too much running around (literally and figuratively) last week. We also managed to figure out what my husband will be wearing to my sister's wedding - it's in less than a month so it feels good to have that figured out.
I have been reading, reading, reading and that always makes me happy.
I've also been on the internet way too much, which also makes me happy even if it's borderline ridiculous. Spotted the lovelies above and now all I want is some beautiful, feminine things.
Jewellery may be among my great loves. That list includes pizza, cats, paper and politeness.
Oh and the husband.

A Vintage Home

In our new space, I'm gravitating towards clean and tidy.
We lived in a cramped space before with all our collections on display (vhs, cd, dvd, records, cassettes - yes, cassettes!). While I loved having everything on hand, I think it will be nice to have everything orderly for a change. Or at least as long as I can keep it that way.

That being said, I still really like the above images - a rather collected little home - something about it feels put together, slightly cluttered but still right. And that's hand-carved ebony and ivory jewellery, reclaimed from an piano!

Happy Jewellery

Since last week's posts were all about letterpress, I thought I would feature something totally different and fresh for this week. I am in love with the geometry and style of each of these lovely necklaces. And the colour combos are pretty adorable too!
Hailing from Boulder, CO, Spinthread hand-sews each piece. It takes her weeks!
I think they are just smashing!

Pieces with Edge

I instantly fell in love with these lovelies from Annie Costello Brown.
Equal parts rock n roll, craft and architecture, I really appreciate the use of contrasting materials and the unexpected shapes.

Glamour Mail

Love these paper gems from Japanese stationery company, D-Bros.
What a wonderful way to surprise someone special...

Found on Escapade, one of my favourite blogs!

Pretty Blue Skies

Continuing my love for paper, I found these beautiful pictures of paper things on Craftgawker.
Working from Vienna, Austria, Paperphine dedicates her blog, to well, paper. I love her simplicity and continuity. I also share in her tendencies. I am addicted to paper. I wish I had the budget to buy all the paper I'd like. It'd be a lot. Maybe too much. Maybe budgets are good that way.

Nice Things

Found these on A Merry Mishap... the blog's author, Jennifer,  presented them as great ideas for her up coming birthday. I think this is a good idea even though I have no birthday in the near future.
