Summer at West Elm

Last night, along with some other bloggers, I got to tour West Elm Toronto for a look at their summer collection. Here are a few of my favourite corners of the store - I love the use of colours and layers. West Elm is always such a treat because of the incredible varied inventory they have. Every bit of the place has endless inspiration and wonderful little pieces for your home and lifestyle. I think they excel in their layering of textures - something I would like to get better at in my own home.

1. A beautiful installation of paper flowers.
2. More paper flowers, handmade in Mexico by local artisans.
3. Waterscape vases that look like tumbled sea glass.
4. A gorgeous grey and yellow table setting.
5. Red, black and white. So simple and chic.
6. Textures for your table!

All photos by MF Miller for Suite Henry. I would also like to clarify that this is not a sponsored post. West Elm did not pay me for any portion of this. I was invited by the Toronto store for a tour and I took photos because I enjoyed the evening. All the bloggers received a small take-away gift because we made the effort to come out and visit. There was also candy. That was nice ;)

Daily Snippets

Things that are inspiring me lately. A cozy corner and some more decorations.
Those snowflake lights flash white and blue. They can go fast or slow or so fast they look like they may induce seizures. We hung them above our art and they've been creating a lovely little glow over our movie evenings.

Wall Wonderful

Inspiring wallpaper from Solid Frog.
Would you be bold enough to put that black-white-gold hexagonal print up on a wall?
Super-interesting!

A Different Ikea

For anyone who is tired of the "Ikea Catalogue" look... these pictures are Ikea but Ikea done in a completely fresh and inspiring way. Everything looks so polished and lived-in. It's nice to see a different Ikea!

Retail Lust - Douglas and Bec, Auckland

I am glad I do not live nearby. A whole world away, actually, because I think I'd spend way too much money at this perfectly curated store. Or at least waste too much time salivating.

My favourite piece is the "I did this instead of going out" Print/Graphic.

Sweet Little Life

Some beautiful objects from the shop, Neëst. They collect wonderfully crafted things from Japan to the Netherlands. The whole collection is streamlined, natural and refreshing.

My favorites are the duck brush, the toy wood food
and the kitty of course!

Not Your Grandma's Doilies

Doilies have a specific, uh, look to them. They tend to just look like, well, doilies. Here are some images to put a little spin on your expectations of doilies from the cleverly titled blog, Fuck Yeah Doilies.

In Living Colour... Continued?

Some inspiration for my side of the argument... found these just after I put up my last post!

In Living Colour

The more that I think about nesting, the more I start to think about how I would set up a home. I have some darling friends that are way into the interior design world. They all have such great style. Through many "what would you do if you won the lottery" conversations I have figured out I am pretty torn between ideas. I really really love the everything-is-black-and-white school of thought, or even the everything-is-different-shades-of-grey... I just never know what I would be able to commit to. I have a tendency towards, and have always been drawn to, rich jewel tones. So would I do that? Everything sapphire, emerald and plum? Saturated colour everywhere? That's a big commitment too! Don't even get me started on wall paint! To make matters even worse, every so often I see something so punchy and colourful, it convinces me white + neon is a livable option. Here are some images of support for the latter way of life.
