Eastbound

We are taking a much needed family break.
Out on the train to the East coast of Canada.
I want naps and food and baby kisses and wilderness and fresh air and maritime horizons.

I'll be gone for the week but I wanted to share a sneak peek of a special project that I'll be showcasing once we get back in town. Till then, take care internet.

WishLust: Lovemaki

I'm pretty into the modern accessories and prints from Toronto-based Lovemaki.
That cloud pillow is too sweet and that bear print is pretty special but my favourite has to be the numbers print.
Such a great colour combination and lovely design.

Open For Business

I'm live.
In the last few weeks I've spent a lot of time working on my professional website.
After much self-exploration (sorry if that sounds rather flaky) I've really zeroed in on what I want to devote my efforts to - and what I want my life to look like. After graduating from a very traditional institution and saying no to the traditional follow-up of grad school -  I was reluctant to get back to writing because when you've been writing long academic papers for years, you can get kind of "over" it.

I started taking printing classes like mad just because I liked it. Somewhere in there a few light bulbs went off and I got some ideas for things I would like to write.
Things I'd like to read.

And that's what I've been doing lately.
I've been submitting ideas, writing articles and stories, editing said articles and stories, selecting images and finally taking photos of my printed work (because as much as I am a writer - I'm also incredibly visual and want to continue designing).

It's been really exciting to figure out exactly how I want my life to look and to just do it.
So come on by and get in touch if there's something you'd like discuss...
I'm open for business!

Good and British

Things that make me feel good...

1. A copy of British Harper's Bazaar, simple and ethereal with Ms. Moss on the cover. The cover is gorgeous and just what I needed after my earlier rant about no art on modern day magazines.
See the conversation argued intelligently on Escapade.
2. Beautiful golden Royal postage on a special anniversary gift package from the U.K.
I like that the British post is termed "Royal Mail." Instant coolness.
3. The special gift! A silkscreening graphic map of London from Bold and Noble.
Thanks Ms. Lovely!

TV ART

Dexter posters by artist Ty Mattson now available on Showcase.
Love the punchy colour selection, the graphics and the layouts.
A pretty cool way to bring the hit tv show to print.

Piece-y Prints

Loving these letterpress prints made with LEGOS!
I think they are super quirky and fun.
It really makes me expand all of my notions of art.
Who would have thought legos could be so expressive and utterly cool?

Cool Kitchen Tool

My recent baking adventures have made me realize how important it is to have a good sense of measurement. It also showed me that if you whip whipped cream too much, you will, like the internet told me, turn it into something almost butter-like and have to start all over... but that's a whole other issue.
Right now I am just really liking these cool kitchen conversion charts from Sweet Fine Day.
They are both useful and creative.

New Magazine?! How Wonderful!

Put anything in magazine form and you've got me hooked. I have, for years, much to the bewilderment of family around me, spent countless hours reading and rereading magazines. It was primarily fashion at first (I was a teenage girl once, you know) but now I'll pick up lots of different kinds. I'm getting into more design magazines and there's one on photography in my purse right now!
I am always super-excited to find a new magazine, and when they're well-done? Well, pffft! That's even better. Please direct your attention now to the lovely images from Anthology magazine from  Anh-Minh Le and Meg Mateo Ilasco. It is a lifestyle, culture and design magazine and their first issue looks wonderful. (You can sneek-peek some more images when you click the title link above).
Thank you Design*Sponge for enabling my habit!

Looks pretty inspiring, eh?
